OVERVIEW OF SYSTEM: The Squaxin Island Tribe (SIT) operates a community sewer system for about 400 residents, and various businesses, including the Little Creek Casino and Resort. In 2007, SIT expanded it utility system with a membrane bioreactor (MBR) waste water and water recovery system. The MBR processes approximately 100,000 gallons per day of effluent to produce Class A water that is delivered to a 23-million-gallon reservoir and then used for irrigation of the SIT-owned Salish Cliffs Golf Course. SIT performs all the required tests, and meets all the Federal standards for waste water disposal.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Performs a variety of skilled technical duties and semi-skilled labor in the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plants; performs adjustments and repairs to plant equipment; collects and documents samples for laboratory testing; performs lead supervision and training to assigned staff; and performs a variety of related duties as assigned. (Progression Plan: the incumbent shall be required to actively & aggressively obtain additional plant operator certifications, based on the “SIT Utilities Operator Progression Program”)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provide lead supervision and training to assigned personnel; assign tasks and projects to plant operations staff; train staff in appropriate treatment methods and techniques; schedule staff to ensure proper plant coverage; audit and/or enter timesheet information into the computer system for assigned employees.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret: general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, lad surveys, building drawings, and flow diagrams, and governmental regulations. Must have the ability to write reports, write business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to manipulate common unit conversions, fractions, decimals, percentages and averages. Knowledge of linear, area and volumetric measurement especially as it pertains to fluid handling. Must be comfortable reading, creating and extracting data from all forms of graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc..) in most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have a current Washington State Driver’s License.

Education/Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in water or wastewater treatment plant operations.
Experience:
At least two (2) years of experience with direct operation and maintenance of a membrane bioreactor wastewater (MBR) plant, and at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
