Amend at UCSF in the UCSF Division of Health Equity and Society (DHES) seeks to hire a full-time Senior (Sr) Program Manager. Amend is led by experts in medicine, public health, and correctional practice reform. Amend partners with the Norwegian Correctional Service, colleagues from other European prison systems, U.S. community-based organizations, advocates working in the transformative justice space, and others to advance jail and prison reform centered on health and humanity. The Sr Program Manager will work closely with the Implementation Director and Implementation Team to advance a broad spectrum of analytical, management, program development, and implementation activities. This role requires knowledge and experience in the fields of criminal justice and/or public policy and/or public health. This role requires superb writing skills, dynamic leadership, professional communication, and high-level program management skills. The successful management of this work requires an ability to partner effectively with diverse stakeholders, including high-ranking appointed and elected government officials and Department of Corrections leaders, correctional staff and their managers, and incarcerated people and their advocates. The Sr Program Manager must be able to collaboratively develop and support the standardization of Amend’s innovative interventions. They will also work closely with Amend colleagues in Program Design, Research, and Communications to ensure that Amend’s impact is well-documented and broadly disseminated with the goal of advancing reform beyond enrolled systems. The Sr Program Manager position requires working with the Implementation Program Management Team to plan, coordinate, and deliver programs (including policy review and officer training) with multiple partnering correctional systems and institutions, and will potentially include direct oversight of program managers. This position requires travel to conduct in-person training at multiple correctional facilities and to oversee international and interstate job shadow and leadership immersion programs. The Sr Program Manager should expect to travel for approximately 40-60 days a year on an approximately monthly basis, primarily to partnering jails and prisons throughout the U.S. and internationally. The Sr Program Manager also facilitates virtual trainings and meetings, and will assist with presentation of the Amend program at a range of international and national forums. The Amend Program Implementation Team is primarily located in the SF Bay Area and is required to come into our office in San Francisco at least twice a month. It would be beneficial for the Sr Program Manager to live in the SF Bay Area to successfully manage the team members and activities located in the Bay Area and California. However, due to program growth into new states and regions, Amend is willing to consider candidates for this role with a history of success working remotely who are located in the Midwest or East Coast. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. The salary range for this position is $110,400 - $172,900 (Annual Rate). Required Qualifications Terminal degree (PhD, JD, MD, etc.) in criminal justice, public health, policy or related area and 5-10 years of specialized work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience/training. Extensive knowledge and understanding of criminal justice reform, public health principles and practices, and health policy. Experience managing complex projects, programs, and initiatives. Exceptional writing, organizational, and communication skills. Superior professionalism and ability to partner effectively with diverse stakeholders. Extensive skill and experience coordinating complex projects and/or partnerships with U.S. Departments of Corrections. Proven ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/programs at once (often with competing deadlines/demands). Excellent Microsoft Office Suite skills; excellent video conferencing skills. Ability to travel nationally & internationally to achieve program goals. Experience managing staff. Experience managing and editing narrative and other reports. Advanced oral and written communication skills. Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results. Advanced ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers. Preferred Qualifications Experience in grant-writing and managing budgets. Knowledge and experience working with labor organizing and/or mobilization partners. Background or academic grounding in education and/or training and/or moderating small and large groups, including using remote technologies.
