UDW Office Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Salary Range: $66,560.00 to $79,624.00/year (depending on experience)
Job Summary:
The Political Assistant will play a critical role in advancing UDW's political goals. This position requires a dynamic individual who can manage multiple tasks, coordinate with various stakeholders, and contribute to the development and implementation of political strategies. The Political Assistant will work closely with UDW staff across California and with members, leaders, and allied organizations to build political power and advocate for policies that improve the lives of domestic workers and their families.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with developing and implementing political campaigns to support UDW’s legislative and electoral goals.
• Organize and coordinate grassroots advocacy efforts on political campaigns at the local, state, and federal levels, including member mobilization and voter outreach.
• Coordinate political activity with UDW staff across departments and regions.
• Monitor and report on local, State, and Federal political races.
• Build and maintain relationships with community and allied organizations, labor unions, and other stakeholders at the local and state levels.
• Collaborate with allies to advance shared political and policy objectives.
• Represent UDW in coalitions and at community events, rallies, meetings, and hearings.
• Participate in union electoral campaigns in and outside of California, including, but not limited to, Get Out the Vote (GOTV).
• Educate and engage UDW members on political issues.
• Organize and facilitate political education workshops, training, and events.
• Coordinate UDW member participation in lobby days, rallies, and other advocacy activities at the local and state levels.
• Maintain and update UDW’s political action databases and contact lists.
• Assist in the creation of campaign materials and reports.
• Manage PAC contributions and expenditures in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
• Assist the Legislative team with legislative projects and objectives when needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of work in this job classification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong written and verbal abilities for drafting memos, reports, and interacting with stakeholders
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, coordinate activities, and meet deadlines
• Conduct thorough research on political issues and analyze complex information
• Deep understanding of political processes, current affairs, and legislative landscape
• Build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
• Work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities
• Precision in handling sensitive information and ensuring compliance
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and political databases
• Ability to confidently speak in public and represent the organization
• Understand and contribute to policy issues and campaign strategies
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, social work, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in political advocacy, campaign management, or a related area.
• Strong understanding of the California political and legislative process as well as federal, state, and local elections.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience in grassroots organizing and member engagement.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with political databases and social media platforms.
• Commitment to UDW’s mission and values, including social justice and worker rights.

• Work arrangement is 100% in-person, in office
• Considerable travel, as well as evening and weekend work, is required with a reliable vehicle.
• Valid driver's license.
